The CDHAM team, led by Director of Education and Civ-Mil Medicine, CDR Carlos Williams, and Program Manager, Ms. Ginny Nagy, just touched down in the beautiful city of Accra, Ghana, on their way to their 8th Tabletop Exercise under the Pandemic Response Program (PRP), organized by U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) with support from CDHAM. This eighth PRP exercise will be held 6-10 February 2012 in Elmina, Ghana, and will bring together experts from Ghana’s National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Health, the Police, the Red Cross, the National Fire Service and other relevant government agencies and NGOs.
The USAFRICOM Pandemic Response Program (PRP) was initiated in 2008 with funding from USAID. This program is designed to assist African nation militaries in identifying their role in response to a severe global influenza pandemic disaster. Unique to this task, PRP engages civil authorities to identify the military’s role and their expectations. CDHAM, a U.S. Federal Government education and training center, part of the Uniformed Service University of Health Science in Bethesda, MD, and USAFRICOM are the primary implementers of this important program.
