Avian Influenza/Pandemic Influenza (AI/PI)

The United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) convened a four-day conference on Disaster Response and Infectious Disease with support from the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center (AFHSC) and the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine (CDHAM). This critically important meeting took place in Abu Dhabi from 11-14 July 2011.

Mission Statement

To support the Department of Defense’s Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center in its core mission as related to Avian Influenza and Pandemic Influenza planning and response. In keeping with the agreement between CDHAM and DOD-GEIS, the AI/PI Program provides assistance and support to unified and component commanders in the following areas:

  • Consultation
  • On-Site Reponse
  • Informatics
  • Surveillance
  • Policy Development
  • Academic Resources
  • COCOM Interation and Support

Methodology

The AIPI grant team works closely with AFHSC and the COCOMs to determine the requirements in EID training and capacity.

Recent Activities and Events

  • NORTHCOM: Public Health Emergency Officer Course, one course in each of the 4 geographic regions
  • SOUTHCOM: Disaster Response Course, Belize July 2010
  • EUCOM: Trilateral Military Forum with Romaina and Moldova on Emerging Infectious Diseases, Laboratory Surveillance and Medical Synchronization. Executed in partnership with Department of Health and Human Services, October 2010
  • CENTCOM: Middle East Infectious Disease Conference – Amman, Jordan, October 2010
  • PACOM: Cambodia Sentinel Surveillance Workshop – Cambodia, February 2010; Public Health Emergency Officer Course, Hawaii, March 2010, 45 trained.
