First Aid for Drowning

If a person drowns, it is necessary to provide first aid immediately. You need to act quickly and correctly. Minutes count, and human life is at stake. Conducting resuscitation for drowning, at the same time you need to call an ambulance. The rules of first aid for drowning must know every person.

Drowning is a type of mechanical asphyxiation (asphyxiation), the cause is the ingress of any fluid in the respiratory organs. There are several types of drowning.

True, if water or any other liquid ends up in the lungs.
Asphyxic – water does not get into the lungs. Works a protective mechanism of the airways – the closing of the vocal folds. Air also has no access, and the person dies of asphyxiation.
Syncopal drowning is characterized by a reflex arrest of the heart and breathing. This situation usually occurs in icy water.
If the person is conscious, he tries to keep his head above water, while actively grabbing it with his mouth. Breathing becomes difficult, and the skin turns blue. Dilation of veins in the neck may occur. Foamy, pinkish white masses come out of the mouth. In syncopal drowning, the skin is pale and no foam is produced.

A brief algorithm of aid in drowning
When rescuing a victim, it is necessary to clearly adhere to the algorithm of assistance in drowning:

Before jumping into the water, make sure that there is no threat to the rescuer;
throw the victim out of the water with the head down over the knee to allow the water to exit the airway;
clean mucus or vomit from the mouth;
call an ambulance;
monitor pupil response to light, breathing and pulse;
if respiratory activity and heartbeat are not palpable, provide first aid for drowning;
Indirect cardiac massage for drowning should be performed in parallel with artificial respiration until the person is able to breathe on his/her own;
put the person in a lateral position, cover them, help them to warm up;
until the arrival of the ambulance to carry out the recovery of the respiratory tract to monitor the condition of the patient.
What to do if the person is drowning
To provide PP in case of drowning, it is necessary to find helpers at lightning speed. It is quicker and easier to pull a drowning person out of the water with two helpers. If the person is unconscious, swim to him and turn him over onto his back. It is important to support the chin with the hand, the nose and mouth should be above water. This is how to get the victim to land to provide PMP for drowning, a brief algorithm of which is set out above.

If the drowning person is conscious, you need to be careful. It is very important that the rescuer is a good swimmer and is calm. Usually, drowning people are in a panic state and have no control over their actions. They may grasp the rescuer and pull him/her under the water. In this case, it is necessary to swim to the victim from behind. One hand should be placed under the victim’s armpit, with the palm of the hand holding the victim’s chin so the head is above the water surface. Take the person to the shore and begin first aid for drowning.
